Jaunt create electric vehicles for adventure, up-cycling iconic four wheel drives for sale and rental across Australia. What was a few handwritten notes in one room has become a team of people in workshops and offices across the country and some very tangible things built from steel, aluminium and lithium!
They aren't trying to restore these iconic Land Rovers to new, they are transforming them into a safer, more powerful and comfortable vehicle that is easier to drive.
Their first Land Rover was Juniper, a 1971 Land Rover Series IIa, pictured in her transformation photos below.
So, why choose a Land Rover Series for electric conversion?
- Aluminium panels mean they are less prone to corrosion
- A body on frame construction makes them easy to work on
- They're built to carry heavy loads, meaning that we can install lots of batteries. It definitely helps that the old Land Rover chassis turned out to be perfect for holding modern lithium-ion batteries!
- Many components remained unchanged for 50 years. They're still affordable to purchase and available nationwide and they have an iconic, nostalgic shape, that inspires adventure.
Here's how Juniper's transformation went down:
